The youth wings of Umno and PAS are hoping their electoral cooperation for the Negeri Sembilan state election can be extended through to the 16th General Election (GE16).
PAS Youth election director Tengku Fakhruddin Tengku Fauzi said the leadership of both youth wings met yesterday to discuss campaign preparations for the Negeri Sembilan polls.
He said the discussions focused on the ongoing state election campaign while also expressing the hope that the relationship between the two parties could continue beyond the current contest.

“That meeting was focused on the Negeri Sembilan polls, but both youth wings will try to ensure this relationship between Umno and PAS will remain intact until GE16 to strengthen Malay-Muslim political power.
“However, the final decision will be made by the central leaderships of PAS and Umno,” he was quoted as saying by Utusan Malaysia.
For the Negeri Sembilan election, Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) have reached an electoral agreement under which BN is contesting 25 seats while PN is fielding candidates in the remaining 11 constituencies.
Future of pact rests with party leadership
PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang has previously expressed hope that the electoral cooperation would continue despite the long and often difficult political relationship between the two parties.
However, Umno leaders have remained non-committal on whether the cooperation should be extended beyond the Negeri Sembilan election.
BN remains a key component of the unity government led by Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
Meanwhile, PH is contesting the Negeri Sembilan state election on its own.
