Independent preacher Wan Ji Wan Hussin has resigned from PKR, citing a desire to “have fewer enemies”.
The news of his departure was first shared by former Petra Jaya PKR division chief Iswardy Morni in a post on X yesterday.
Wan Ji, 43, confirmed his exit when contacted by FMT.
Reason for resignation
He revealed that he submitted his resignation letter on January 1.
“I am getting older. Therefore, I need to think about having fewer enemies,” Wan Ji said.
He added that while in PKR, many people outside the party were reluctant to befriend him.
Political background
The preacher was previously a member of PAS before joining PKR in 2015.
He also served as an aide to former Penang chief minister Lim Guan Eng.
In September 2023, Wan Ji was sentenced to nine months in jail.
He was convicted of sedition against the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.
The charge stemmed from a Facebook post he made in 2012.
