PKR Youth has appealed for unity and political stability as Umno Youth meets today to discuss continuing cooperation with Pakatan Harapan in the unity government.
In a statement to Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh, PKR Youth chief Kamil Munim described all parties in the government led by PH chairman Anwar Ibrahim as “one big family” despite differences.
Call for mutual respect
Kamil stressed that differing opinions are natural and should be handled with mutual respect and understanding.
He emphasised that stability and harmony in Malaysia’s multicultural society depend on wisdom, moderation, and shared responsibility.
Government parties must work prudently to strengthen ties and retain public trust, he added.
Shared goals emphasised
Kamil urged parties to respect sensitivities, avoid unnecessary controversies, and keep opinions constructive for the people’s benefit.
He noted that, despite diverse backgrounds and ethnicities, all share the goal of preserving harmony and building a better future for Malaysia.
Background to Umno Youth convention
The Umno Youth convention began at 3pm at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur.
It was called following Puchong MP Yeo Bee Yin’s refusal to apologise for a social media post.
Yeo had described the Kuala Lumpur High Court’s rejection of former prime minister Najib Razak’s house arrest bid as a cause for celebration.
Tensions within coalition
Selangor Umno demanded an apology from Yeo within 24 hours, which she did not provide.
Puchong Umno then announced it would sever ties with its PH counterpart.
The remark angered senior Umno leaders, including secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.
He suggested reviewing cooperation with those who fail to value Umno’s contributions.
Akmal explained that the convention seeks grassroots input on the issue.
