Former prime minister Najib Razak has yet to pay the RM50 million fine required for him to serve the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest, Attorney-General Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar said.
Dusuki said the fine must be paid at the Kuala Lumpur High Court Registrar’s Office, as the case was filed and heard there.
“As of now, Najib’s family has not paid the fine. Once payment is made, I cannot say exactly when Najib will be brought home, as the process may take some time,” he was quoted as saying by Bernama.
He added that the standard operating procedures for implementing the house arrest arrangement would be issued by the Malaysian Prisons Department.
RM50m payment remains a condition
Najib was granted a conditional pardon on Sept 18, allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence for the SRC International case under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028.
The order, decided at the 64th meeting of the Pardons Board for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya, is subject to Najib paying the RM50 million fine and complying with the stipulated conditions.
Najib remains at Kajang Prison pending fulfilment of the conditions. The Prisons Department is to issue the procedures for implementing the house arrest arrangement.
Najib serving sentence over SRC International case
Najib, 73, has been serving his sentence at Kajang Prison since Aug 23, 2022, following his conviction in the SRC International case involving RM42 million.
In February 2024, the Pardons Board reduced his original 12-year prison sentence to six years and his RM210 million fine to RM50 million.
The latest conditional pardon allows him to serve the remainder of the sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, subject to the payment of the RM50 million fine and compliance with the conditions imposed.
