Parti Wawasan Negara (Wawasan) aims to contest at least the Bemban and Sungai Udang state seats in the Nov 14 Melaka election, as negotiations over seat allocation with its allies continue, says its secretary-general Saifuddin Abdullah.
Saifuddin said the number of seats allocated to Wawasan had yet to be finalised, with discussions ongoing with other Perikatan Nasional (PN) parties, including PAS, Pejuang, Gerakan and the Malaysian Indian People’s Party (MIPP).
‘We are ready to contest but have yet to determine the number of seats. Naturally, we want to defend what we already hold.
‘At the same time, we recognise that, whatever the circumstances, we cannot contest alone. The choice of logo will also depend on the outcome of the ongoing negotiations,’ he told a press conference after attending the Wawasan Baru Melaka roundtable on Sunday.
Seat negotiations still underway
Saifuddin said Wawasan would not disclose details of its discussions with allies while negotiations were ongoing.
He added that there was sufficient time to reach an agreement before nomination day on Oct 31.
Wawasan prepares manifesto and election machinery
Saifuddin said the party had prepared its election machinery and was drafting a manifesto based on views and proposals gathered during the roundtable.
He said the manifesto would reflect both Wawasan’s priorities and its prospective cooperation with allies in the state election.
‘The manifesto will not represent Wawasan’s position alone. It will also take into account the cooperation being discussed with our allies,’ he said.
Party has alternative plan over PN logo
Saifuddin added that Wawasan had prepared an alternative plan in case a court decision prevented PN from using its name and logo in the election.
‘Whatever the court decides, we have a Plan B to continue our efforts to represent the people’s voice in the Melaka state assembly,’ he said.
