Deputy Prime Minister and Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has confirmed that the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) will contest in the upcoming 17th Sabah state election.
Speaking after the Bumiputera Economic Transformation Plan 2035 (PuTERA35) event, he said MCA would be given seats to contest, but the Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) would not, citing the small and insignificant Indian voter base in Sabah.
“MCA will have candidates, but MIC will not, due to the low number of Indian voters. PBRS will contest as a BN component party,” he said.
He added that BN’s line-up will include mostly new faces, while some incumbents will be retained, and more professionals will be fielded.
Ahmad Zahid also confirmed that seat allocations between BN and Pakatan Harapan (PH) have been finalized, with no overlaps.
Earlier this week, Sabah Chief Minister Hajiji Noor announced the dissolution of the state assembly, paving the way for PRN17 to be held within 60 days.
The Election Commission will convene a special meeting on October 16 to determine key dates.
