Sabah Umno deputy chief Abdul Rahman Dahlan’s decision to step down from contesting Tempasuk for Barisan Nasional stemmed from no internal BN issues, according to BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Rahman chose to withdraw honourably to pave the way for younger candidates proposed by Sabah Umno after consulting Zahid.
Personal Discussions
“He called me earlier to request his withdrawal,” Zahid told reporters after launching the Karnival Lindung Kerjaya event here today.
“Two days ago, he was with me and the candidate in Tuaran, as well as today when I went to Kota Belud. Yesterday, Rahman himself came to accompany the candidate (in Kota Belud). There is no problem whatsoever within BN.”
Praise for Selflessness
Zahid commended Rahman for his generosity and prioritising party needs over personal ambitions, serving as a model for others.
“He withdrew because he felt that the opportunity should be given to a younger person. So, Sabah Umno decided to field Azuwan Norjan as the candidate in Tempasuk.”
Multi-Cornered Tempasuk Race
Tempasuk will see a seven-cornered fight, with Gabungan Rakyat Sabah’s Arsad Bistari defending the seat.
Challengers include Azuwan, John Samud (Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat), Rimin Maun (Parti Kebangsaan Sabah), Timuti Majitol (Parti Impian Sabah), Khidir Lamsil (Warisan), and Walter Mark Mukis (Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku).
