Pakatan Harapan (PH) Melaka chairman Adly Zahari has urged the coalition to focus on winning state seats rather than discussing who should become chief minister if it succeeds in forming the next state government.
Responding to Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari’s suggestion that he return to lead the Melaka administration if PH wins the state election, Adly said the coalition’s immediate priority was securing enough seats to form the government.
‘We appreciate the view, but our focus is to ensure victory in the state constituencies because we know that the process of forming a government depends on the number of seats won,’ he told a press conference at PH’s main operations room in Melaka today.
Adly, who is also PH’s candidate for the Bukit Katil state seat, said the coalition must make full use of the 14-day campaign period to secure support for its candidates.
‘I think our task over these 14 days is to secure victories for our state assembly candidates, and the only people who can deliver those victories are the voters of Melaka. That is our focus,’ he said.
Adly previously led Melaka government
Adly was the 11th Melaka chief minister after PH formed the state government in May 2018.
However, his administration came to an end in March 2020 after a shift in political support caused the PH government to lose its majority.
