UMNO Supreme Council member Ahmad Maslan asserted that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s position remains secure even if nine Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) MPs were to resign and become independents.
Speaking at a community event in Kampung Batu Rakit, Ahmad emphasized that the unity government currently holds 153 parliamentary seats, far above the 112-seat threshold needed to maintain control.
“Even if nine or eleven PKR MPs leave the party and become independents, the PH-led government remains intact and Anwar’s role as PM is unaffected,” he said.
Ahmad expressed confidence that key figures like Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, both former ministers will stay loyal to the party and uphold political stability.
“These are principled leaders who will not abandon the party. They care about stability and will not jeopardize the nation’s governance,” he said.
His comments follow rising tensions in PKR after nine MPs called for a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) into alleged judicial interference. Their move prompted internal backlash, with 30 division leaders from Kedah and Johor urging immediate suspension of the MPs involved.
Still, Ahmad praised Rafizi and Nik Nazmi’s integrity, affirming their commitment to the party and to maintaining national order.
