SpaceX has committed $2 billion to xAI as part of a $5 billion equity round, strengthening the collaboration between Elon Musk’s ventures, The Wall Street Journal reported on Saturday.
The investment comes following xAI’s merger with social platform X, bringing the combined entity’s valuation to $113 billion. The report notes that Grok, the chatbot developed by xAI, is now used in Starlink customer support and may soon be integrated into Tesla’s Optimus humanoid robots.
When asked on X whether Tesla might also invest in xAI, Musk replied, “It would be great, but subject to board and shareholder approval,” without confirming or denying the WSJ report.
SpaceX, xAI, and Tesla have not issued official comments, and Reuters has not independently verified the report.
Despite recent backlash over some of Grok’s controversial responses, Musk continues to promote it as “the smartest AI in the world.” xAI is reportedly investing heavily in model training and infrastructure to catch up with rivals like OpenAI.
