Suspended or expelled Umno leaders must set aside personal egos if they truly care about the party’s future, said Umno Youth chief Akmal Saleh.
According to Berita Harian, Akmal said that Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has already expressed his openness to consider appeals from those subjected to disciplinary action.
“The party belongs to all of us. We must reunite. We need those who were suspended or sacked to help rebuild and strengthen Umno,” he said.
“However, there is one condition — everyone must put their egos aside. God willing, Umno will emerge stronger,” he stated during the opening of the Seremban Umno Youth Annual General Meeting last night.
He was responding to a motion by Sembrong Umno calling for the return of its suspended former division chief, Hishammuddin Hussein.
However, Hishammuddin — the Sembrong MP and former Umno vice-president — has indicated that he is unlikely to appeal, citing the lack of clear communication on the reasons for his suspension. He remarked that submitting an appeal should not be seen as the sole measure of loyalty.
Akmal further noted that he would also support the return of other disciplined leaders, including Khairy Jamaluddin and Shahril Hamdan.
“Those who faced disciplinary action have made meaningful contributions to the party — contributions we cannot ignore. That is why I emphasize that unity in Umno is vital, and such unity must come from both sides,” he said.
