Amanah president and Agriculture and Food Security Minister Mohamad Sabu said the decision to reshuffle the Cabinet lies entirely with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, and the party will respect whatever choice he makes.
He said the Prime Minister has full discretion to retain, replace, or appoint any individual he deems suitable, whether politicians, professionals, party members, or outsiders.
“For this Cabinet, it is the Prime Minister’s prerogative. He can choose politicians, professionals, party members or even outsiders.
“For Amanah, we will accept any decision made because what matters most is strengthening the team ahead of the next general election,” he said at the 2025 Amanah National Convention press conference.
Asked whether Amanah leaders such as Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari and Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister Aiman Athirah Sabu would be considered for Cabinet positions, Mohamad reiterated that the decision is entirely up to the Prime Minister.
“I leave it completely to the Prime Minister, even if it involves changing my own portfolio,” he added.
He said Amanah has yet to hold any specific discussion with the Prime Minister regarding Cabinet positions or the new term for senators whose appointments are nearing expiry.
Yesterday, Higher Education Minister Zambry Abdul Kadir hinted that a Cabinet reshuffle could take place within two to three weeks during his speech at the closing ceremony of the 2025 Festival of Ideas Putrajaya (FOI).
Zambry’s term as a senator is due to expire on Dec 2, having taken his oath of office on Dec 3, 2022. He was appointed as foreign minister before assuming his current portfolio.
Other ministers sworn in on the same day include Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar, and Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz.
