Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has expressed hope that Barisan Nasional’s (BN) newly elected representatives for Kinabatangan and Lamag will uphold the leadership and service legacy of the late Bung Moktar Radin.
He said BN’s victory in the twin by-elections reflects public confidence in the commitment and service demonstrated at the grassroots level.
Bung Moktar, the former Sabah BN chief who died on December 5, 2025, had served as the Kinabatangan member of parliament since 1999 and as the Lamag assemblyman since 2020.
By-Election Results
In Saturday’s polls, Bung Moktar’s son, Mohd Kurniawan Naim Moktar, retained the Kinabatangan parliamentary seat for BN. Mohd Ismail Ayob secured victory in the Lamag state seat.
Anwar stated that this electoral success must be met with a profound sense of duty.
“Trust bestowed by the people demands leadership with integrity, effective service delivery, and the ability to engage with the needs of the community in an inclusive and sustained manner,” he said.
Federal Commitment to Sabah
The Prime Minister added that the federal administration would continue to uphold the spirit of consensus to ensure Sabah’s development is strengthened and the people’s well-being is safeguarded.
“I pray that the legacy of service and leadership of the late Bung Moktar Radin will continue to be upheld,” Anwar said.
