Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, who paused briefly to speak with reporters outside the venue, said the session covered several key national issues, notably those related to the judiciary and constitutional interpretation.
“The Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform), Azalina Othman Said, was also present. She provided clarification on matters related to the Federal Constitution, particularly Article 125, which deals with the appointment, removal, and tribunal processes involving judges,” Fahmi explained.
He added that the session was well received by the attending MPs.
“What the Prime Minister conveyed was positively received by PH MPs,” he said.
“Let’s wait for the post-Cabinet press conference for more comprehensive details.”
As the government’s official spokesperson, Fahmi typically holds weekly press briefings following Cabinet meetings.
On Rafizi and Other Absentees
When asked whether former Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli was in attendance, Fahmi replied:“I don’t have the attendance list. I was seated at the back.”
Rafizi and eight other PKR MPs had recently called for the establishment of a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) to investigate alleged irregularities in the appointment of senior judges, including the Chief Justice.
Pressed further on whether the other eight MPs were present, Fahmi simply said:“Many of them came. Quite a number attended.”
Meanwhile, Berita Harian reported that Setiawangsa MP Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, a former Minister of Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change, did not attend the meeting.
When contacted separately, Nik Nazmi confirmed his absence, stating:“I’m currently in Singapore… this trip had been scheduled in advance.”
