Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has hinted at the introduction of an “extraordinary” gesture of appreciation for the Malaysian public, with an announcement expected as early as next week.
Anwar, who also serves as the finance minister, stated that the ministry is currently fine-tuning a proposal designed for swift implementation to ease the burden on the people.
“The finance ministry reviews potential measures every week that the prime minister can announce to address public concerns,” he said.
“If not on Monday, then perhaps Tuesday… give us another two or three days to finalize the details. I will announce it soon. Pray for the best, God willing,” Anwar remarked during an event at the Universiti Teknologi Mara campus in Penang, as reported by Bernama.
Anwar acknowledged the government’s efforts to balance rising living costs with the country’s fiscal capabilities. He noted that expenditures for existing aid programs, such as the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) and recent civil servant salary hikes, already amount to billions of ringgit.
The Prime Minister first alluded to the impending announcement in a Facebook post on July 14. The post featured a poster with the prominent words “Coming soon” and the message: “An extraordinary gesture of appreciation for Malaysians.”
