Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the latest Merdeka Center survey, which ranked him as Malaysia’s most popular political leader, would serve as motivation for his administration to work harder rather than become complacent.
Expressing appreciation for the survey findings, Anwar said the recognition would encourage the government to continue improving its performance.
“Alhamdulillah, but we must always strive to do our best and work harder. We must not become complacent because of praise,” he told reporters after Friday prayers at Masjid Jameatus Solehah.
Survey places Anwar at the top
The Merdeka Center survey found that Anwar received the highest approval rating among Malaysian political leaders, with 52% of the 1,209 respondents expressing satisfaction with his performance.
The survey was conducted between March 12 and April 9 and ranked Anwar ahead of six other political leaders.
PM denies Felda entry directive
On a separate issue, Anwar denied claims that the government had issued a directive preventing Johor Barisan Nasional chairman Onn Hafiz Ghazi from entering Felda settlements.
“There was no such directive. No one was barred,” he said.
However, Anwar said state governments should not expect support from the federal government for programmes organised as part of their election campaigns.
“If you have your own programme, go ahead. There’s no problem. But if the state government is campaigning, you can’t expect the federal government to assist. That wouldn’t be appropriate,” he said.
Programme relocated
Onn Hafiz had previously claimed he was prevented from entering a Felda settlement to attend a land title handover ceremony held in conjunction with the Johor Felda Settlers’ Day celebration in Ulu Belitong, Kluang.
The incident led to the programme, originally scheduled to be held at Felda Ulu Belitong on June 20 and 21, being moved to Dewan Dato’ Onn in Taman Sri Lambak.
