Finance minister II Amir Hamzah Azizan says he has not decided whether he will contest the next general election, as he remains focused on serving the country in his technocrat capacity.
Building on professional expertise
He said he has built his reputation by contributing his knowledge as a professional in economics and finance, particularly in his current ministerial role.
“Let me strive to help the country in my own way,” Bernama reported him as saying after an event at Kampung Pulau Betong in Balik Pulau, Penang, today.
Background and path to Cabinet
Amir was born in Penang but grew up in Kuala Lumpur because of his father’s government service.
A former CEO of the Employees Provident Fund, he was appointed to the Cabinet after becoming a senator in December 2023.
His term as senator expires in December this year.
