Police have secured a two-day remand order for preacher Zamri Vinoth and activist Tamim Dahri Abdul Razak in connection with a planned rally against what organisers called “illegal” houses of worship.
Remand granted amid Sedition probe
Kuala Lumpur police chief Fadil Marsus confirmed that a magistrate approved the two-day remand for the pair.
An investigation has been launched under the Sedition Act, Section 505(b) of the Penal Code, and relevant provisions of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission Act.
Fadil made the announcement in a brief statement to the media.
Earlier reports indicated that 131 police reports had been filed against Zamri and the group known as Gerakan Anti Rumah Anutan Haram (Garah).
Rally halted, arrests made
The planned rally, scheduled for last night outside the Sogo department store in Kuala Lumpur, did not take place.
Police had earlier declared the gathering blocked due to security concerns.
At the location, officers arrested 19 individuals – 15 men and four women.
Police said 17 of those detained were released after their statements were recorded.
