Umno secretary-general Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki claimed that PAS abandoned Umno under Muafakat Nasional (MN) to join forces with Bersatu because the latter promised financial aid to prepare for the 15th General Election.
In a Facebook post, Asyraf said this was confirmed by former principal private secretary to Muhyiddin Yassin, Dr Marzuki Ahmad.
“No wonder PAS was willing to leave Umno and register Perikatan Nasional (PN) with Bersatu. At the time, many already revealed that Bersatu offered financial assistance to PAS for GE15.
“Now that Muhyiddin’s former aide has disclosed that all PN’s campaign expenses, including PAS candidates, were fully borne by Bersatu, it only confirms the talk back then,” he said.
On Wednesday, media reported that Marzuki revealed the entire PN election cost during GE15 was financed by Bersatu.
He said the minimum expenditure for a parliamentary constituency could reach RM1 million, with actual costs potentially higher depending on local circumstances.
According to him, PAS faced little financial burden during GE15 since it contested under PN’s logo and all campaign materials were provided by the coalition.
Meanwhile, PAS election director Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, in his winding-up speech at PAS’s 71st annual congress on Tuesday, took a veiled jab at PN allies. He said PAS had to pay RM1,200 for each polling unit (UPU) to provide election equipment for other PN parties to contest.
