UMNO Secretary-General Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki has urged all party members to immediately put an end to the so-called “satay-style politics” to restore the party’s strength and win future elections.
He explained that “satay-style politics” is a metaphor for internal politicking — individuals who constantly provoke, stir up conflicts, and flip sides, thereby creating divisions and factions within the party.
“I emphasised to the delegates that for UMNO to regain strength and secure victories in elections, unity is fundamental. This is in line with UMNO’s motto: ‘United, Loyal, Serving’,” he said.
Dr Asyraf highlighted that certain toxic cultures have been weakening the party, including the tendency to incite discord and internal conflict.
He was speaking to the media after officiating the Bukit Gantang UMNO Division Delegates’ Meeting. Dr Asyraf is also the chairman of MARA (Majlis Amanah Rakyat).
Also present were Bukit Gantang UMNO Division chief and UMNO Youth Information Chief Mohammad Sollehin Mohamad Tajie, Perak State Assembly Speaker Datuk Mohammad Zahir Abdul Khalid, and other state and divisional UMNO leaders.
“The most important thing is to return to our core struggle. UMNO was founded to uphold and protect the interests of our religion, our race and our nation. Therefore, anything that distracts us from this focus, including satay-style politics, must stop immediately,” he stressed.
