The tragic death of Malaysian student Zara Qairina Mahathir continues to dominate headlines after a 44-second audio clip of her conversation with her mother, Noraidah Lamat, surfaced on social media.
In the clip, believed to be recorded days before her death, Zara expressed fear of a senior student known only as “Kak M,” who allegedly had not forgiven her and issued threats.
“Mom, I’m scared to see Kak M… She told someone she still hasn’t forgiven me,” Zara was heard saying.
Zara also mentioned that her name was erased from the Design and Technology (RBT) classroom board but was rewritten by Kak M. More disturbingly, she mentioned a physical threat: “If I touch you, you’ll bleed all over… what if she actually does it?”
Zara was found unconscious near her religious boarding school in Papar, Sabah, and was later pronounced dead at Queen Elizabeth Hospital I on July 17.
On August 1, her legal team confirmed the voices in the recording belong to Zara and her mother. A supplementary police report was lodged at Sipitang Police Station on July 30, detailing earlier bullying and threats from senior students, including Kak M.
Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail confirmed the investigation papers have been handed over to the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC). The AGC acknowledged receiving reports on August 3 (from Sabah) and August 4 (from Putrajaya), and further review is ongoing.
