Bersatu has rejected calls to expel MPs who signed a confidence and supply agreement (CSA) with the government coalition, saying their actions were different from those that led to the expulsion of six party MPs in 2024.
Bersatu information chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz said the six MPs had their memberships terminated, while two others were suspended, for violating the party constitution.
However, he said those who signed the latest confidence arrangement had done so following a decision by the Bersatu supreme council.
Tun Faisal responds to Kiandee’s criticism
Tun Faisal was responding to suspended Bersatu vice-president Ronald Kiandee, who questioned the decision by party president Muhyiddin Yassin and five other MPs to sign the CSA.
In a Facebook post yesterday evening, Kiandee said that since the six former Bersatu MPs were expelled for supporting Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, those who signed the confidence arrangement on Thursday should also have their memberships automatically terminated.
Tun Faisal said the six MPs who signed the CSA with the government had acted in accordance with a decision by the party’s supreme council.
“Their circumstances are a little different from those of the two Bersatu MPs who were suspended and the six who were sacked by Bersatu’s disciplinary board,” he said.
Disciplinary action against Hamzah’s supporters
Tun Faisal said the “supporters of Hamzah Zainudin who are now in Wawasan” had faced disciplinary action for signing statutory declarations calling for the party president’s resignation and negotiating with other parties without the party’s permission, among other matters.
The six Bersatu MPs who signed Thursday’s agreement were Muhyiddin (Pagoh), Radzi Jidin (Putrajaya), Ali Biju (Saratok), Suhaimi Abdullah (Langkawi), Nazri Abu Hassan (Merbok) and Azman Nasrudin (Padang Serai).
The agreement was also signed by Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman and the six former Bersatu MPs who were expelled in 2024 for declaring their support for the government.
