A Bersatu leader has urged the Registrar of Societies (RoS) to be wary of what he described as PAS’ ‘delay tactics’ in its investigation into a complaint lodged by Bersatu that subsequently led to the suspension of Perikatan Nasional (PN).
Bersatu information chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz said he was perplexed by PN secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan’s claim that the coalition was unaware of the complaint.
‘Takiyuddin himself admitted that he had been summoned by the RoS and questioned for four hours over Bersatu’s complaint,’ he said in a Facebook post.
Bersatu questions Takiyuddin’s claim
Tun Faisal was referring to a news report in August in which Takiyuddin, who is also PAS secretary-general, told the RoS that PAS had excluded Bersatu from discussions on PN’s preparations for the Negeri Sembilan state election because of the party’s criticism of PAS.
Although Bersatu is a component of PN, PAS has severed ties with the party.
Tun Faisal also said the RoS had confirmed receiving Bersatu’s complaint on Aug 11. The complaint concerned the party’s status within the opposition coalition and its non-participation in a PN Supreme Council meeting.
He was responding to Takiyuddin, who said yesterday that PN had written to the RoS seeking clarification and details of Bersatu’s complaint.
Takiyuddin said PN was awaiting an official response from the RoS because it did not know what the complaint was about.
Tun Faisal urges RoS to reject clarification request
Tun Faisal urged the registrar not to entertain PN’s request for clarification.
‘The RoS needs to be wary of such delay tactics. We, Bersatu, have seen PAS repeatedly employ delay tactics since taking over as PN chair,’ he said.
The RoS had confirmed that it received Bersatu’s complaint on Aug 11 over the party’s alleged exclusion from a PN Supreme Council meeting on July 16, with the complaint also touching on Bersatu’s membership status within the coalition.
PN remains suspended
The RoS suspended PN with effect from Sept 23 after issuing a notice seeking an explanation over the complaint.
The registrar said the suspension was intended to safeguard PN’s interests and prevent the coalition from continuing to breach its rules. It also stressed that the notice was not a decision to cancel PN’s registration.
