Barisan Nasional (BN) will contest 25 of the 36 state seats in the Negeri Sembilan election on Aug 1, deputy chairman Mohamad Hasan announced.
Of the 25 seats, Umno will contest 16, while MCA and MIC will field candidates in seven and two constituencies respectively.
Mohamad, who will defend the Rantau seat he has held since 2004, also confirmed that BN would cooperate with other parties in the state election. However, he did not identify the parties involved.
The remaining 11 constituencies yet to be announced are Klawang, Serting, Lobak, Sikamat, Ampangan, Bukit Kepayang, Mambau, Paroi, Lukut, Bagan Pinang and Gemas.
Three Umno newcomers to make election debut
Three Umno members will make their electoral debut under the BN banner.
They are Kuala Pilah Umno Youth chief Mohamad Qayyum Abd Jalil in Senaling, Rasah Puteri chief Siti Nur Umaira Hasim in Labu, and Wanita deputy chief S Leza Md Yasin in Pilah.
Former Senaling assemblyman Ismail Lasim will contest the Juasseh seat after incumbent Bibi Sharliza Abd Khalid decided not to seek re-election.
BN is also retaining several incumbents, including Mohamad in Rantau, Negeri Sembilan Umno chief Jalaluddin Alias in Pertang, Mohd Razi Mohd Ali in Sungai Lui, Mustapha Nagoor in Palong, Mohd Zaidy Abdul Kadir in Jeram Padang, Muhammad Sufian Maradzi in Seri Menanti, Saiful Yazan Sulaiman in Johol, Suhaimizan Bizar in Gemencheh, Mohd Asna Amin in Lenggeng, Mohd Faizal Ramli in Linggi, Suhaimi Aini in Kota and Zaifulbahri Idris in Chembong.
Polling on Aug 1
Earlier, Mohamad unveiled BN’s list of 25 candidates for the state election, with the coalition expected to announce candidates for the remaining 11 seats at a later date.
The Election Commission has set July 18 as nomination day, followed by early voting on July 28. Polling will take place on Aug 1.
