Barisan Nasional has confirmed it will support the formation of the Sabah state government under newly reappointed chief minister Hajiji Noor.
Umno secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki announced the decision in a short Facebook post today.
He thanked BN’s election machinery for their efforts during the intense two-week campaign.
Hajiji Secures Second Term
Hajiji was sworn in early this morning, backed by GRS’s 29 seats, five independents, three Upko assemblymen, one from Pakatan Harapan, and Jeffrey Kitingan’s two STAR representatives.
The alliance gives him a comfortable majority in the state assembly.
Tough Night for BN in Polls
Despite the poorest showing in decades, with only six wins from 45 seats contested, BN has chosen to join the government side.
Sabah BN chief Bung Moktar Radin narrowly held Lamag with a reduced 153-vote majority, down from 661 in 2020.
Former chief minister Salleh Said Keruak lost his long-held Usukan seat after four terms.
