The investigation into the Aug 13 attack on Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli’s 12-year-old son has been officially handed over to Bukit Aman’s Criminal Investigation Department for a more centralised probe.
Selangor police chief Shazeli Kahar confirmed the move, saying it will ensure a holistic approach to the case. He urged members of the public with information to come forward and assist.
Yesterday, Shazeli revealed that police had identified several positive leads from CCTV footage, which could help track down the assailants. Investigators are also working with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to probe threatening text messages received by Rafizi’s wife the day after the incident.
The attack occurred at about 2pm on Wednesday at a shopping mall in Putrajaya. CCTV footage reportedly showed two men in black, their faces concealed by helmets, trailing Rafizi’s wife’s car on a motorcycle.
His son was dragged and stabbed with a syringe before being rushed to hospital for treatment and observation. The attackers fled the scene.
The former economy minister said he believed the assault was premeditated and that his wife had likely been monitored for days prior. He added that his son will undergo six months of medical tests to rule out the possibility of being injected with harmful substances.
