A so-called “ghost ship” that drifted into the Semangkok A oil rig area off Terengganu on Tuesday has been successfully towed about 140 nautical miles over two days and brought to the Kemaman Supply Base (KSB) on Thursday morning.
The three-deck vessel, measuring 53.7m in length and 10m in width, is believed to be linked to the tanker fire that occurred on August 6, some 36 nautical miles off Tanjung Sedili Kecil, Johor.
In that incident, an Indonesian crew member was killed while four others were injured.
Kemaman Maritime Zone director Commander Abdul Halim Hamzah had earlier confirmed that no victims or hazardous chemicals were found on board after a joint inspection.
The ship has since been handed over to the Marine Department for further action, while authorities will ensure it is secured against trespassers.
