DAP Socialist Youth (Dapsy) has described Umno Youth chief Akmal Saleh’s repeated calls for Umno to withdraw from the unity government as a political joke. Dapsy noted that despite three days of public demands, not a single top Umno leader has supported his stance.
Dapsy reaffirmed that Umno decided during its 2023 General Assembly to support the unity government until the end of its term. The youth wing advised those uncomfortable with the anti-corruption reform agenda to leave the government immediately rather than making empty threats.
The statement highlighted that the 2020 alliance between Umno, Bersatu, and Pas resulted in political instability and economic stagnation. Furthermore, in the 2022 General Election, Pas and Bersatu seized many of Umno’s traditional seats.
Dapsy asserted that Akmal’s hope for Pas to assist certain leaders is a fantasy, as Pas merely uses Umno to expand its own influence. The poor governance in Pas-led states like Kelantan and Terengganu was cited as proof of their liability.
Dapsy called on all political parties to remain committed to stability and the reform agenda. The wing emphasized that Malaysians deserve a government focused on prosperity and public services rather than divisive racial and religious politics.
