The Sabah state government has expressed full confidence in the authorities to conduct a transparent and thorough investigation into the death of Form One student Zara Qairina Matahir, ensuring justice for her and her family.
Chief Minister Hajiji Noor said the case had not only touched the hearts of Sabahans but also attracted widespread attention nationwide and even in neighbouring countries.
“This clearly shows that justice for Zara is a shared demand that transcends borders and differences,” he said.
This is Hajiji’s first public statement since the case gained extensive media coverage.
His remarks came after the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) instructed the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to reopen investigations, including an order to exhume Zara’s remains for a post-mortem.
Hajiji welcomed the AGC’s directive and urged the public to remain calm, avoid speculation, and trust the authorities to carry out the ongoing legal process.
He also shared the hashtag #JusticeForZara on social media, echoing the solidarity movement across online platforms.
Yesterday, over 1,000 people gathered at Harbour Mall in Sabah for a vigil to honour Zara and demand the truth. The event was organised by the Zara Solidarity Secretariat, whose spokesperson Mohamad Kadir Abdul Jalil said it was a sign of sympathy and support for the family, as well as a call for the truth behind the incident to be uncovered.
