Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) chairman Hajiji Noor is confident his coalition will secure more than 40 of the 73 seats in the coming state election, enough to form the next government with a comfortable simple majority.
Strong Machinery and Ground Support
Hajiji said the optimism stems from solid party machinery, close cooperation among GRS component parties, and warm feedback from voters across the state.
He believes GRS can defend most of the seats it held before the assembly was dissolved last month, including Lumadan and Klias.
Clear Target from 55 Contested Seats
“We are fielding candidates in 55 seats, and I am confident we will cross the 40-seat mark,” the Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah president told Bernama.
A simple majority requires 37 seats, meaning victory in over 40 would give GRS a stronger mandate.
Breakdown of Seats Among Allies
Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah is contesting the largest share with 35 seats, followed by Parti Bersatu Sabah (11), Usno (two), and Parti Cinta Sabah and Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah (one seat each).
Five candidates are running as direct GRS members.
Of the 55 seats in play, 40 were previously held by the coalition before the dissolution of the 16th Sabah state assembly.
The election date is set for November 29.
