Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) chairman Hajiji Noor has hit back at the opposition, saying they refuse to recognise the real progress made by his administration over the past five years.
Tangible results on the ground
Hajiji told reporters yesterday that the coalition’s confidence in winning a simple majority comes from concrete achievements.
“We have rolled out aid for the poor, more scholarships for students, and settled long-standing issues with Petronas. State reserves have grown from nearly RM3 billion to over RM8 billion,” he said.
Nearly 100000 people now receive RM300 monthly assistance plus free housing, he added.
Opposition challenged on past record
Hajiji questioned what the opposition delivered when they were previously in power at state and federal levels.
“They can criticise all they want, but the people know who is working for Sabah,” he said.
He expressed confidence GRS will take more than 40 of the 73 seats, with his Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah contesting 35, followed by Parti Bersatu Sabah (11), Usno (two), and one each for Parti Cinta Sabah and Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah.
A simple majority requires 37 seats.
Don’t let emotions derail progress
Hajiji urged voters to judge candidates on performance, not sentiment.
“We are finally on the right track. One wrong choice and Sabah’s progress will suffer,” he warned.
Water crisis inherited from past governments
He blamed previous administrations for the ongoing water woes, saying terminated concessions left the state owing RM315 million in compensation.
“That money could have built roads and bridges in the villages,” Hajiji said.
Corruption claims dismissed as political
Hajiji brushed off recent corruption allegations and viral videos linked to the mining scandal as politically motivated attacks, often from outsiders trying to meddle in Sabah affairs.
The state has handed the matter to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission for a full investigation. MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki has already confirmed that the caretaker chief minister is in the clear.
