Former Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob has filed official reports with the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) against a Facebook page that he claims has linked him to the recent attack on the son of Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli.
According to a statement from Ismail Sabri, an aide lodged a report at the Dang Wangi police headquarters on August 18. The report targets two “defamatory articles” that allegedly implicate him in the assault and in a separate scandal involving a private company.
“A report has also been filed with MCMC and Facebook so that immediate action can be taken against the page and its administrator or owner,” said the former Umno vice-president. He asserted that the posts were “completely untrue and maliciously intended to damage my reputation and good name.”
Ismail Sabri has urged authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and take strict action against those responsible for the Facebook page and anyone who has shared the posts. He also confirmed that he has instructed his lawyers to pursue further legal action.
The former prime minister concluded his statement by thanking Rafizi Ramli for his earlier clarification.
Background of the Attack
The incident occurred last week when Rafizi Ramli’s 12-year-old son was attacked at a shopping mall in Putrajaya. According to Rafizi, CCTV footage shows two men on a motorcycle, wearing black with helmets fully covering their faces, following his wife’s car. The assailants reportedly dragged his son and stabbed him with a syringe before fleeing the scene. The boy was immediately taken to the hospital for treatment and a full medical examination.
Rafizi, a former economy minister, suspects the assault was a planned warning to silence him on certain issues. Earlier today, he publicly denied claims linking Ismail Sabri and former health minister Khairy Jamaluddin to the attack. He acknowledged that rumors had circulated a week before the incident about a whistleblower providing information on an alleged money laundering case supposedly involving Ismail Sabri and projects connected to Khairy.
