Johor Amanah has called for equitable collaboration between Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) in preparations for the upcoming Johor state election, rejecting any “big brother” dominance by either coalition, according to a report by Utusan Malaysia.
Dzulkefly Ahmad, deputy chairman of Johor Amanah, emphasized that cooperation must be grounded in equality and the principles of the unity government. “We reject any form of dominance or ‘big brother’ attitude from either PH or BN,” he stated.
He stressed that negotiations over seat allocations, campaign strategies, and the division of responsibilities should reflect each party’s strengths and contributions, rather than relying solely on historical dominance or past electoral success.
While PH is not part of the Johor state government, Dzulkefly highlighted the coalition’s significant contributions at the federal level, which have facilitated major projects in Johor, including the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone, the Special Financial Zone, and the Gemas-Johor Bahru Electrified Double Track Project.
To ensure smooth collaboration, Dzulkefly advocated for early and transparent seat negotiations to prevent misunderstandings. “Coalition partners must respect each other’s perspectives, as Johor’s people expect unified leadership, not internal disputes that fuel negative perceptions,” he added.
Currently, BN leads the Johor state government with 40 seats in the state assembly, while PH holds 12 seats and provides support through a confidence-and-supply arrangement, without formal inclusion in the state government.
Some PH members have called for a unity state government in Johor, mirroring the federal government model, where PH and BN collaborate alongside East Malaysian parties.
