Several major routes in the city centre are expected to be diverted in conjunction with the “Turun Anwar” rally scheduled to take place at Dataran Merdeka this Saturday (July 26).
Acting Kuala Lumpur Police Chief, Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad, said the rally is expected to involve five main assembly points, namely the National Mosque, Pasar Seni, Sultan Abdul Samad Mosque, Kampung Baru Mosque and the SOGO shopping complex, before participants proceed to converge at Dataran Merdeka.
He said that traffic diversions would be activated as required, depending on real-time developments, to ensure smooth traffic flow and the safety of all road users.
“Among the routes likely to be affected by the diversions are Jalan Maharajalela (exit to Jalan Syed Putra), Jalan Kinabalu (Public Bank U-turn), Bulatan Sultan Mohamad, Jalan Kinabalu (exit to Bukit Aman Tunnel and Bulatan Dato’ Onn), as well as both the left and right lanes above Bulatan Dato’ Onn.
“Other affected routes include Jalan Parlimen to Bulatan Dato’ Onn, Jalan Sultan Salahuddin to Bulatan Dato’ Onn, Jalan Kuching (exit to Jalan Sultan Ismail), Jalan Kinabalu (from Bulatan Segambut and National Mosque towards Bulatan Dato’ Onn), Jalan Lebuh Pasar Besar/Jalan Hang Kasturi, Jalan Hishamuddin/Jalan Raja, Jalan Parlimen/Jalan Raja Laut, Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman/Jalan Tun Perak, and Jalan Lebuh Ampang/Jalan Tun Perak,” he said in a statement on Friday.
Mohamed Usuf advised members of the public to plan their journeys in advance, use public transportation where possible to minimise congestion, and comply with instructions issued by traffic police officers stationed at affected locations.
