Thailand’s Acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai has cautioned that the ongoing armed clashes along the Thai-Cambodian border could potentially escalate into a full-scale war, as the fighting entered its second day.
“If the situation continues to intensify, it could evolve into a war. However, at this point, it remains an armed conflict,” Phumtham told reporters in Bangkok.
The acting premier also confirmed that the border skirmishes with Cambodia have already claimed the lives of more than 20 Thai civilians.
He added that the clashes have severely disrupted the lives of people living in the affected areas, stressing that the government is committed to defending the nation and safeguarding its sovereignty.
