The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will serve former human resources minister M Saravanan, his wife and their three children with notices requiring them to declare their assets.
MACC chief commissioner Abd Halim Aman said the notices would be served on Monday.
“Saravanan and his family will be given 30 days to declare their assets,” he told reporters after attending the 5th National Governance, Integrity and Anti-Corruption Research Conference 2026.
Family given time to complete declaration
Halim said MACC had taken into account that one of Saravanan’s sons is studying in London and would be given sufficient time to complete the asset declaration.
He also said Saravanan and his family had been informed about the matter.
According to reports, the notice will be issued under Section 36 of the MACC Act 2009. Saravanan, his wife and two of their children are expected to receive the notices on Monday, while another child who is overseas will receive the notice at a later date.
Saravanan faces three corruption charges
On Aug 28, Saravanan, who is also MIC deputy president, pleaded not guilty to three charges of allegedly receiving bribes totalling RM1.097 million in connection with foreign worker quotas.
The charges relate to alleged payments made in 2022 in connection with the approval of 1,000 foreign worker quotas for a company. Saravanan has denied the charges by pleading not guilty.
Azeez and family also ordered to declare assets
Last week, MACC also ordered former Tabung Haji chairman Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim and his family members to declare their assets.
MACC had served the notices on Azeez and his immediate family, including his children, giving them one month to complete the declaration.
Azeez had earlier this month pleaded not guilty to a charge of abusing his position as Tabung Haji chairman to obtain gratification in the form of the chairmanship of another company, along with other benefits.
