Former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad has been advised by doctors against surgery for his fractured hip due to his age, his son Mukhriz said.
Details of the Incident
Mukhriz said Mahathir, who is 100, suffered the fracture after falling during his routine morning exercise at home yesterday.
He was subsequently admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN).
“The IJN report indicates that the hip fracture will require two to three weeks of hospital stay,” Mukhriz said in a video.
“Considering his age, surgery is not considered a suitable choice,” he added, explaining that recovery would naturally take time.
Mukhriz expressed gratitude to the public for their kind wishes and asked for privacy so his father could rest properly.

Mahathir’s press secretary Sufi Yusoff said yesterday that the former prime minister was fully conscious when admitted to IJN.
Mahathir has a long-standing history of heart conditions and underwent bypass operations in 1989 and 2007.
The former Langkawi MP has been hospitalised at IJN multiple times in recent years.
His most recent admission was on July 13 last year, following fatigue during a picnic and potluck event in Putrajaya celebrating his 100th birthday and the 99th birthday of his wife Hasmah Ali.
