Several political parties have submitted applications to join Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) following the decision by Usno to withdraw from the ruling coalition.
Secretary-general Masidi Manjun revealed that while one partner has left, the coalition continues to attract interest from other political entities.
Masidi downplayed the impact of Usno’s exit, characterizing it as a reflection of the ever-changing and unpredictable political reality within the state.
He noted that in the local political landscape, movements of parties coming and going are common occurrences.
Respecting the decision to part ways
While expressing a wish that Usno had remained within the fold, Masidi stated that the coalition respects the party’s choice.
He emphasized that the separation was amicable, noting the importance of parting as friends rather than adversaries.
The secretary-general described politics as highly fluid, suggesting that it is often difficult to predict developments even a day in advance.
He added that GRS chairman Hajiji Noor would make an official announcement regarding the new applicants at a suitable time.
Incompatibility cited as reason for exit
The departure comes after Usno announced on Wednesday its decision to leave GRS, approximately four years after being admitted as a member.
The party cited incompatibility with the state government’s current policies and administrative style, particularly following the state election.
As part of its withdrawal, Usno has also relinquished all posts related to the state government.
GRS information chief Joniston Bangkuai noted that he understood the party’s reasons, acknowledging that issues of incompatibility had led to the decision.
