Melaka voters have been urged to consider the Anwar Ibrahim government’s track record, particularly its ability to create jobs, when they cast their ballots on Nov 14.
PKR’s Hassan Karim said job creation was one of the indicators voters could use to assess whether Pakatan Harapan (PH) should continue leading the government.
He said official data showed that the unity government had generated hundreds of thousands of new jobs.
“The Madani government’s track record can be used as a gauge of whether the coalition has performed well,” the Pasir Gudang MP said in a statement.
Quarterly job growth and unemployment figures
Hassan said Department of Statistics Malaysia figures showed that between 20,000 and 35,000 new jobs were generated every quarter from 2023 to 2026.
He added that the unemployment rate remained between 3.1% and 3.3% from the end of 2022 to mid-2026.
Approved investments totalling RM329.5 billion in 2023 were expected to generate 127,000 jobs, he said.
Meanwhile, investments approved in 2024 and 2025 resulted in the creation of between 120,000 and 140,000 jobs in the manufacturing and services sectors.
Google investment expected to create 37,000 jobs
Hassan also cited technology giant Google’s recent announcement that it would invest US$15 billion (RM60.9 billion) in Malaysia in 2027, which was expected to generate 37,000 jobs.
“This isn’t political propaganda but facts. The people can see for themselves the government’s achievements when it comes to generating jobs,” he said.
