The Malaysian Esports Federation (MESF) has announced upcoming digital safety guidelines for online games such as Roblox, aimed at safeguarding children from various online risks.
MESF president Muhammad Naim Al Amin Saharudin revealed this initiative followed a productive meeting with Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh and Roblox representatives yesterday.
The talks centred on rising worries over children’s vulnerability to online predators, cyberbullying, gaming addiction, exploitation, and exposure to unsuitable content, often stemming from inadequate parental oversight.
“We plan to release tailored digital safety guidelines, including those specific to Roblox, alongside coordinated awareness campaigns to address these challenges effectively,” Naim told FMT.
Supporting Parental Guidance
MESF, in collaboration with industry partners, will provide clear explanations on game age ratings. This effort seeks to equip parents and guardians with the knowledge needed to enforce appropriate gaming boundaries.
Broader Role in Youth Protection
Naim emphasised that MESF’s involvement extends beyond esports titles. The federation remains committed to curbing harmful behaviours and minimising risks for young gamers across various platforms.
