A total of 103 candidates will contest the Negeri Sembilan state election, with all 36 state constituencies set for contests, the Election Commission (EC) announced.
EC chairman Ramlan Harun said Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) are fielding candidates in all 36 constituencies and 25 seats respectively. Bersatu has nominated 24 candidates, while Perikatan Nasional (PN) is contesting 11 seats.
In addition, Parti Sosialis Malaysia, Parti Orang Asli Malaysia and Parti Berjasa are each fielding one candidate, while four independent candidates are also in the race.
Of the total candidates, 94 are men and nine are women.
Majority of seats to see multi-cornered contests
The election will feature 11 straight fights, 21 three-cornered contests, two four-cornered contests and two five-cornered contests.
The four-cornered contests will take place in Jeram Padang and Rahang, while Nilai and Sri Tanjung will each see five-cornered battles.
Youngest candidate is 23
The oldest candidate in the election is PH’s Abd Latif A Tambi, aged 70, who is contesting the Gemencheh seat.
The youngest is Bersatu’s M Leevineshwaran, aged 23, who is contesting in Sri Tanjung.
A total of 889,490 registered voters are eligible to cast their ballots in the Negeri Sembilan election.
Early voting is scheduled for July 28, while polling day will be held on Aug 1.
