The ongoing political crisis in Negeri Sembilan must not be allowed to cripple the state administration, the state PKR chapter said today.
Negeri Sembilan PKR said uncertainty surrounding the state executive council could delay urgent matters requiring consideration and approval by the authorities.
It said investments, development projects, approvals and land transfers, as well as project implementation, could be affected.
‘This could jeopardise investor confidence, complicate matters for landowners and businessmen, and affect employment and incomes,’ it said in a statement posted on state PKR chief Aminuddin Harun’s Facebook page.
‘The state government must ensure clarity regarding who holds the power to make decisions, the responsibilities of all parties involved, and the administration’s continuity. Public interest must trump political interests and personal considerations,’ it said.
Exco appointments revoked
On Sept 20, the Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, revoked the appointments of 10 state executive councillors with immediate effect. The palace said the decision followed findings that the councillors had breached their oaths of office and pledges of allegiance to the ruler, which they had taken on Aug 7.
The revocation came a week after the Exco members issued a joint statement purportedly affirming the removal of Tuanku Muhriz as the Yang Dipertuan Besar.
The state gazette later confirmed that the revocation took effect on Sept 20.
The purported removal of Tuanku Muhriz was deemed invalid by the state’s highest customary council and the Attorney-General’s Chambers, among others.
Focus on continuity of administration
Following the revocation, the palace said the Menteri Besar was required to submit a list of candidates for new Exco members for the ruler’s consideration and consent under the Negeri Sembilan Constitution.
PKR’s state chapter said the uncertainty should not be allowed to affect the administration’s ability to deal with matters involving investors, landowners, businesses and development projects.
Yesterday, Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Ismail Lasim was granted an audience with Tuanku Muhriz at Istana Hinggap in Seremban.
The meeting, which lasted nearly three hours, was understood to be related to the state’s administration and the ongoing situation in Negeri Sembilan, according to Bernama.
The developments come as the state administration continues to face uncertainty following the revocation of the 10 Exco appointments.
