Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming has accepted the criticism regarding the incident that occurred during the recent “I Lite U” pre-launch press conference.
Nga Kor Ming posted on his Facebook today that he is aware that there may have been an error during the incident and accepts it with an open heart.
As such, he is willing to meet with the involved media representatives soon so that the matter can be properly resolved.
“As a leader, I’d like to emphasise that I have always respected media freedom and never intended to offend anyone, especially journalists who are the pillars of information for the MADANI Government,” he said.
His objective, he stated, is simply “to build, together, a multi-racial Malaysia that is inclusive, progressive and to always uphold the country’s dignity at the international level.”
He also expressed his appreciation for the support of the media, which continues to play an important role in delivering the ministry’s initiatives to the people.
At the press conference for the pre-launch ceremony of the ‘I Lite U’ project, held in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2026, Nga was asked why the programme used the English language instead of the National Language.
Initially, he explained that it was a tourism event, hence the use of English was more suitable to attract international tourists.
Nga then questioned the concerned reporter about the media outlet they worked for.
When the journalist informed him they were from Utusan Malaysia, the minister, with a serious face, said he would contact the newspaper’s chief editor regarding the question asked, a statement which drew widespread criticism.
