Setiawangsa MP Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad has announced his resignation as Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, effective today, and shared a farewell moment with his staff at the ministry.
In a post on platform X this morning, accompanied by two photos, he expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve in the ministerial role.
“Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve as Minister in this office. Young (and young at heart), full of dedication. Thank you for understanding this difficult choice. Often, the right decision is the hard one,” he said.
In the same post, Nik Nazmi also included lyrics from the song Time of Your Life by American rock band Green Day.
Previously, Home Minister and Pakatan Harapan Secretary-General Saifuddin Nasution Ismail had expressed hope that Nik Nazmi would reconsider his decision to resign from the Cabinet.
On May 28, Nik Nazmi announced that he had submitted his resignation letter to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, to take effect today.
On the same day, Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli also announced his resignation as Minister of Economy, which took effect on June 17.
The decisions by both PKR leaders are believed to have been made following their defeat in the party elections last month, where they failed to retain their posts as Deputy President and Vice President, respectively.
