Former Pengkalan Batu assemblyman Norhizam Hassan Baktee says he is ready to contest in the upcoming Melaka state election, including the possibility of returning to his former seat.
The Hang Tuah Jaya Bersatu vice-chief said he was prepared to contest anywhere if that was the party’s decision.
‘I will contest, though I’m not sure which seat. I am open to being fielded anywhere if that is the party’s decision.
‘But I want to serve the people of Pengkalan Batu again,’ he said when contacted.
Wants to return to Pengkalan Batu
Norhizam claimed that voters in the area had expressed hope that he could serve as their assemblyman again.
Responding to a poster about his ‘comeback’ that went viral on social media, he said he did not know who had circulated it.
‘I appreciate the support from the people for me to contest.
‘As long as Pengkalan Batu needs a brave and firm leader, I am always ready to serve.’
From Umno to Bersatu
Norhizam began his political career with Umno before switching to DAP. He became the Pengkalan Batu assemblyman after winning the seat in the 14th general election.
In 2020, he quit DAP and became an independent assemblyman before attempting to defend the seat in the 2021 Melaka election.
He contested as an independent but secured only 1,218 votes and lost his deposit.
The seat was won by Barisan Nasional’s Kalsom Noordin.
In 2024, Norhizam revealed that he had joined Bersatu.
