More than 100 residents from two low-cost apartment blocks in Taman United, Seputeh, Kuala Lumpur were ordered to evacuate after soil movement following a landslide on a nearby slope this morning, amid continuous rain since early morning.
The Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department Operations Centre said it received a report at 11.02am of a landslide along a slope at Jalan Sepadu 6, before deploying a team from the Seputeh Fire and Rescue Station to the scene.
Seputeh Fire and Rescue Station chief Deputy Fire Superintendent II Armdan Mahat said the incident involved an estimated 60m stretch of collapsed slope, which struck two cars and several motorcycles. One vehicle was buried while another toppled as soil rushed down the slope.
He said the landslide had entered the compound of the nearby low-cost apartment. After discussions with a representative from the Seputeh parliamentary office and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) engineers, two residential blocks comprising 104 units, along with nearby premises, were ordered to be evacuated due to continued soil movement and heavy rain.
He added that no casualties have been reported so far, and Fire and Rescue Department personnel remain at the site to monitor further ground movement and ensure the safety of residents.
