PAS excluded Bersatu, its fellow Perikatan Nasional component, from discussions on preparations for the Negeri Sembilan state election because of criticisms directed at the Islamic party, PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said.
He said he had informed the Registrar of Societies (RoS) that Bersatu’s decision to contest under its own logo was another reason the party was not included in the discussions.
“If they did not want to use the PN logo, why should we call them again?” he was quoted by the New Straits Times as saying.
Takiyuddin said he told the RoS officer that PAS had several reasons for not involving Bersatu, including actions that had strained ties within PN.
RoS questions Takiyuddin over exclusion
Takiyuddin made the remarks during a ceramah tonight, revealing that RoS questioned him for four hours following a complaint by Bersatu over its exclusion from the discussions.
He also said PAS was aware of the strained relationship between Umno and Bersatu, adding that Umno had expressed its willingness to work with PAS in Negeri Sembilan.
PAS to decide based on party interests
Takiyuddin said PAS would continue making decisions based on what it believed was best for the party and its broader political cooperation.
PAS severed ties with Bersatu in June, saying it would explore forming a new political pact to contest upcoming elections with the aim of “uniting the ummah”.
PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang said the party had to sever ties with Muhyiddin Yassin’s party because Bersatu had become greedy for seats and power.
