Pas held an emergency meeting today to deliberate on issues surrounding Perikatan Nasional (PN), including the party’s future relationship with its coalition partner, Bersatu.
The meeting, chaired by Pas president Abdul Hadi Awang in Kuala Terengganu, involved the party’s top leadership, including members of the Pas Political Bureau and Central Committee. It is believed to have been convened at short notice, with proceedings beginning at around 11am.
Among the senior Pas leaders in attendance were deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan, and vice-president Idris Ahmad.
Tensions between Pas and Bersatu resurface
The emergency meeting comes amid renewed tensions between the two PN component parties. Hadi was reported to have said Pas would re-evaluate its cooperation with Bersatu following a series of actions by the party led by Muhyiddin Yassin, which were seen as violating the spirit of camaraderie within the coalition.
The Marang member of Parliament was quoted as saying the decision stemmed from several moves by Bersatu that his party deemed ‘unpleasant.’
Bersatu to address the matter internally
In response, Bersatu information chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz was reported to have said the party would raise matters concerning its relationship and cooperation with Pas for in-depth discussion during its Political Bureau and Supreme Council meetings in the near future.
No further details on the outcome of today’s Pas emergency meeting have been made available at the time of publication.
