In the early hours of this morning, police fatally shot two foreign men believed to be the leaders of a major robbery and housebreaking syndicate during a shootout along Jalan Semerah Padi in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur.
According to the New Straits Times, Federal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) acting director Datuk Fadil Marsus said the duo were believed to be masterminds behind a syndicate linked to over 50 cases across five states, Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, and Perak — with losses exceeding RM3 million.
The shootout occurred at around 3.45 am when the suspects were reportedly scouting for a new target. They were travelling in a white Honda Civic reported stolen in Subang Jaya last year.
Fadil said officers attempted to intercept the car, but the suspects resisted, leading to the fatal confrontation.
A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a revolver, a semi-automatic pistol, some drugs, and tools commonly used in break-ins.
Fadil added that police are now tracking down the remaining members of the estimated 15-person syndicate and urged the public to come forward with any relevant information.
