The Ministry of National Unity is hosting the exhibition “Chinese Opera: An Introduction, A Reminder” from July 8 to September 8 at Gallery 1 of the Department of Museums Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur.
Minister Aaron Ago Dagang said the exhibition offers visitors an opportunity to appreciate the beauty and uniqueness of traditional Chinese opera, a classical art form rich in aesthetic value, historical depth, symbolism, and cultural heritage passed down through generations of the Chinese community.
He noted that the exhibition also serves as a cultural education platform, introducing the public to the intricacies of costumes, music, makeup, scripts, and character roles in Chinese opera, which often portray themes of morality, love, struggle, and history.
“Through this exhibition, the Ministry of National Unity aims to highlight the importance of preserving and appreciating Malaysia’s diverse artistic and cultural heritage.
This effort is aligned with the Malaysia Madani aspiration, which upholds values of mutual respect, interethnic understanding, and appreciation of diversity as the foundation of national strength,” he said in a statement.
He added that the exhibition is not merely an introduction to the cultural art of one community, but also a reminder that cultural heritage is a shared treasure that must be respected and valued by all.
“By fostering a deeper understanding of one another’s culture, we can strengthen ties and enhance harmony among the multiracial and multi-religious communities in the country,” he said.
